TiG shortlisted in four categories in the Computing Cloud Excellence Awards 2019

Computing’s annual Cloud Excellence Awards aim to recognise the very best of the UK’s cloud industry, from the most innovative and compelling products and vendors, through to the top use cases from end-user firms. TiG are pleased to announce we have been shortlisted in four categories for 2019. These are:

  • Cloud Management Solution of the Year
  • Best Overall Use of Cloud
  • Best Cloud Project
  • MSP of the Year

Entries into these awards involved the submission of real case studies of projects carried out for our clients, so we’re especially pleased to be nominated across so many categories and have so much of our day to day work considered worthy of awards. Congratulations to our Professional Services and Managed Services teams for producing a consistently outstanding level of work and continuing to provide TiG’s clients with top quality customer service.

A major part of TiG’s entry that impressed the judges was the cloud management portal provided to all of our clients upon completion of their cloud transformation project. These dashboards keep you up to date with costs and usage rates, so there will never be any nasty surprises when it comes to billing.

We are experts in finding the cloud transformation solution that provides the most value to each individual business. Take a look at our cloud pleaser page or contact us to find out more. Experience the service that lead to TiG Data Intelligence winning the computing cloud excellence awards 2019.

Five things to look for in an IT provider

Five things to look for in an IT provider

Five things to look for in an IT provider

Whether you are looking for outsourced IT support for the first time, or considering upgrading your existing IT partner, the choice that you make could have significant consequences for your business. The relationship between business and IT partner is an important one that has a far reaching impact on everything, from growth to efficiency and security. If you’re not sure where to start, here are the five things to look for in an IT provider.

1. Designing a strategic IT roadmap for your business

If you are engaging someone to manage your IT then demand more from the arrangement than just providing a support function or reacting to issues that arise. Your IT provider can bring specialist expertise to the table to help you develop an IT roadmap for the year ahead. This could include recommendations as to hardware and software, suggested upgrades and areas where new technology could solve an old issue for your business. The key is an IT partner who recommends genuinely useful additions, as opposed to anything more than you actually need.

2. Proactive, flexible service

You will get a lot more from a relationship with an IT partner if the service they are offering is proactive, as opposed to purely reactive. However, that should not mean that you have to vastly increase your IT spend. The right partner will be able to create a flexible service that is designed to suit the unique needs of your business, from the budget constraints, to the business objectives.

3. Highlighting critical need

Finding an IT provider who can identify failures and vulnerabilities that you haven’t spotted will boost security and take a weight off your shoulders. Look for an IT partner able to highlight any current situations where there is a critical need for change, such as back ups that aren’t working fully or holes in security. This kind of proactive problem solving provides a firm foundation for a positive ongoing relationship.

4. 24/7 support

It should not be purely down to a client business to sound the alarm when there is an issue. The right IT provider will offer 24/7 monitoring to pick up on issues as soon as they arise. This means that security breaches or software problems, for example, are not left unresolved. Proactive and preventative maintenance and ongoing monitoring are an essential part of the relationship with the right IT provider. It means that handling emergency situations, as well as every day problem solving, is more responsive and efficient.

5. A relationship built on trust

IT is an important part of business infrastructure and problems can be catastrophic, which is why choosing the right IT partner is crucial. Perhaps the most important thing to look for in an IT provider is the ability to listen and design IT support that delivers both the explicit requirements, as well as infrastructure changes that you may not have articulated. Does the provider understand your strategic goals? What about your efficiency challenges and business structure? What unique support are they offering to help you reach them?

These five things to look for an IT provider give you an idea of where to start with your search. If you’d like to know more about the support TiG can provide for your organisation, contact us, or take a look at the Secure Managed Services page.

Diversity Employer of the Year 2019 Finalists

We’re pleased to announce that TiG have been shortlisted for Diversity Employer of the Year at the CRN Women in Channel Awards.

These awards recognise the achievements of the entrepreneurs, leaders and exceptional employees you can act as role models for young females considering a career in the fast-paced technology industry. A CRN spokesperson said, ‘When we launched the CRN Women in Channel, we were unsure as to what extent the industry would welcome the campaign. Last year’s mandatory reporting of gender pay gap figures was a high-profile, and sobering reminder that the tech industry is not reflective of the society in which we live. Yet the response from channel figures across the spectrum was resoundingly positive. From graduate newcomers to some of our top leaders and entrepreneurs, entries to the CRN Women in Channel Awards reflected a strong desire to shine a light on best practice, wherever it is happening in the UK channel.’

The awards take place on 17th October 2019 and we look forward to celebrating success alongside our fellow nominees.

Opportunities at TiG

We’re proud of our diversity employer of the year finalist status, and hope it gives you encouragement to join our team. At TiG we are relentless in the pursuit of excellence. are you missing out on the best talent for your business

Are you missing out on the best talent for your business?

Are you missing out on the best talent for your business?

The concept of flexible working isn’t new, and while many businesses are well on the way to implementing the technology that will increase their flexible working capabilities, others are lagging behind. Whether this is due to non-prioritisation of IT upgrades, or a lack of understanding about the impact digital transformation can have on a business, the impact is the same – The business will eventually fall behind its competitors, as they take advantage of more efficient working practices and collaborative tools available. In turn the most technologically prepared businesses will be able to attract the best employee talent.

So, if the idea of flexible working has been around for a while, why is it so much more important now? This is largely due to the changing workforce and the priorities of new generations who form a large part of it. Recent headlines have told that millennials will rule the workforce, as they will make up more than half of the entire workforce population by 2020. This generation will have a powerful influence on trends, tech-innovation, communication and the way we work.

When aiming to capture the attention of this new generation of potential employees, businesses must convey their company values and culture online and on social media, as this is where they will turn to for research. Companies looking to attract and keep talent need to prioritise digital transformation, especially as 93% of millennials say up-to-date technology is one of the most important aspects of the workplace, and 77% would accept or decline a new role based on the technology available.

93% of millennials say up-to-date technology is one of the most important aspects of the workplace, and 77% would accept or decline a new role based on the technology available

The millennial generation have already had a massive impact on the way we communicate and are responsible for creating a world in which media consumption is rapid, multitasking is the norm and filtering information quickly is a necessity. As well as being great attributes for a potential new employee, these traits cause 77% of millennials to say a flexible work schedule enables them to be more productive, and they will actively seek out companies that offer this. In fact, flexibility is cited by 79% of millennials as a top priority when looking for a new job, leading to an increase in jobs offering working from home, flexitime, and co-working spaces.

The Microsoft 365 bundle includes tools that make it easier than ever for businesses to offer flexible working to their employees, through features such as identity management and secure mobile working. This allows employees to login quickly and easily from any location or device, so long as it meets pre-set security requirements as set by the organisation. Alongside specifically designed programmes such as Teams, this encourages a more collaborative approach to work and for some businesses could negate the need for a traditional 9-5 working week.

More businesses are using their technical capabilities to introduce flexible working, enabling them to attract a talented and loyal workforce. As businesses adjust to the ways in which this new demographic of workforce engages, those who utilise technology will be best placed to attract the talent they are looking to recruit.

cloud computing and compliance for the financial sector

Cloud computing and compliance for the financial sector

Cloud computing and compliance for the financial sector

Migrating to the cloud has multiple benefits for businesses in the financial sector, from reducing costs to improving efficiency and scalability. These advantages are now fairly well known when it comes to making a convincing argument for cloud computing. However, what is less obvious is that cloud computing can also bring positive change with respect to compliance. Here we take a look at the impact cloud computing can have on compliance in the financial sector.

What difference can the cloud make to compliance?

Given the raft of regulation that affects UK businesses in the alternative investment sector and beyond, compliance is already a key issue for many. Now, financial industry operations not only need to be able to actively protect data but also to regularly report on how effective its internal data protection measures are. There are a number of ways in which cloud computing can assist with fulfilling the increasing number of compliance obligations businesses across all sectors now face.

IT accountability

There is a greater need than there has ever been for IT accountability, to ensure that data is tracked and traceable. This is far easier to execute and manage in a cloud computing set up than any other. In particular, data retention requirements – which may differ from regulation to regulation and have become increasingly prominent thanks to the GDPR – are a much simpler matter in the cloud.

Data recovery

In a disaster situation, whether that is an attack on network infrastructure or hardware that has been crippled by fire or flood, compliant businesses have systems and steps in place to limit the damage. This can be a huge endeavor for on premise systems, particularly if there is no off site hardware to use as a back up. Cloud computing makes this element of compliance fairly straight forward. Virtualisation means that data can be recovered and access restored no matter what has happened to physical premises or existing systems.

Controlling data access

Tagging and classification are an essential part of the process of controlling data access and ensuring that only the right people have eyes on certain information. This can be automated in a cloud environment so that data and its context is easy to identify and understand. It also enables data that has not been correctly identified to be found and properly tagged and classified, creating the kind of transparent environment that ensures compliance.

Network quality and security

The new era of compliance requires businesses to regularly gain perspective on IT operations, risks and functions. The purpose of this is to be able to ensure adequate risk management and updating to keep systems as secure as possible. The automation options in the cloud mean that systems are always up to date and that applications and deployments are a much faster process than when manually managed. Something as simple as an out of data piece of software could trigger compliance issues but cloud computing is designed to help avoid such a scenario.

Cloud computing offers a broad range of benefits to businesses keen to ensure compliance. Wherever you are on your cloud transformation journey, contact us or take a look at our Cloud Pleaser solution to find out more.

TiG acquires netConsult

TiG, the award-winning provider of IT transformation and Cloud services, has acquired netConsult, an IT consultancy focused on the financial services sector backed by investment from BGF. This forms part of a long-term strategy for developing service capability, sector expertise and scale.

The acquisition of netConsult enables TiG to enhance its financial service offering to its customers, while netConsult will benefit from TiG’s expertise in AI, data analytics and Machine Learning. The acquisition will double the size of TiG’s workforce to 90 staff. netConsult’s management, including co-founder and CEO Richard McDonald, will lead an expanded financial services team.

netConsult provides strategic technology consultancy to its global alternative investment clients. Growing substantially in recent years, its client base has assets under management of more than $100bn.

TIG provides cloud transformational services for a range of medium and large sized businesses. It is a Gold Microsoft Cloud and productivity partner, providing the full range of private, public and Hybrid cloud services.

The investment from BGF will be used to grow the business organically and through acquisition. BGF has backed nearly 70 technology businesses since 2011, including UKCloud, DevOpsGroup and Virtual1.

Des Lekerman, CEO of TiG, said: “The acquisition of netConsult brings TiG deeper expertise in the financial services sector and comes with a best in class management and technical team. This will add further to our growth and service offering, and it represents another step towards our goal of becoming the UK’s best cloud services provider for medium sized UK businesses.

“Bringing BGF on board provides us with backing from an investor with substantial experience and success working with companies in our sector. Its minority approach means that we gain from its financial support and expertise but retain full control. We are very much looking forward to working with both teams in the months ahead to grow the business and take advantage of the exciting opportunities on the horizon.”

Richard McDonald at netConsult said: “We’re delighted to be joining Des and his team at TiG. The fit between the companies is excellent and we now have the scale and support we need to grow as part of a full service provider.”

Mark Nunny, a BGF investor who joins the board of TiG, said: “TiG stands out in its sector due to strong technical leadership and a customer-focused approach to cloud transition and service. A lot of mid-market corporates will need to move to the Cloud over the next five years and TiG is well placed to support them.

“There is significant opportunity for growth in the sector, and today’s acquisition of netConsult is a fantastic result for Des and the team and the first step in an ambitious growth plan which we’re excited to support.”
