Waterstones  – Unified communications

Waterstones reputation is built upon the knowledge and enthusiasm of their 4,500 booksellers. Communication is key: with 300 shops spread throughout the UK, Republic of Ireland and continental Europe, no two bookshops are the same – each one has an unique range and promotes books picked by that branch. In 2013 they needed a new telephony solution, but were also keen to be able upgrade to a future proof platform that would allow them to communicate and collaborate more effectively.

The challenge

Waterstones’ vision was for a collaborative tool that would eventually be rolled out to all of their stores. At the same time they wanted to leverage the investment they had made in their Microsoft Enterprise Agreement.

It was important that they found a technology partner that could meet their expectations, understand their business strategy and with the expertise to advise them on the best long – and short – term solutions. Workshops and consultations allowed us to understand how various departments needed to communicate. We then designed a strategy that enabled Waterstones to replace their telephony solution with a collaboration tool offering flexibility and value for money. We also managed to reduce communication costs across all key sites.
